Quarantine Life

My life has not changed drastically since quarantining due to COVID-19.  My college did switch to online classes, which I’m actually happy about.  I’m very much a homebody and would rather be studying on my couch than in a classroom.

Watching Live Mass on the projector screen

Of course, I miss going to Mass terribly.  My church is still open for confessions and adoration and live streams the Mass.

I was very blessed to be able to watch my seminarian brother serve Mass. ❤ Though I can’t see him in person due to quarantine, seeing him via live stream is a great comfort!

I’ve been recovering from strep, so I’ve mostly been resting.  I’m currently reading Pride and Prejudice for the first time, doing some art, and working on my novels.  Also, I’ve been doing my college homework.  Finals are almost here!

Need some new books to read during quarantine? Here are some suggestions for you!
From the top:
📚Escape from Warsaw by Ian Serraillier. Exciting story of a family trying to reunite during WWII. Based from actual accounts.
📚St. Dominic Savio by St. John Bosco. Wonderful life of a saint written by a saint!
📚The Consolation of Philosophy by Boethius. Looking for something deeper? Boethius’s philosophical works influenced St. Thomas Aquinas. This is very thought provoking.
📚Treasure in Clay by Fulton Sheen. This is his autobiography and is full of witty and touching stories.
📚Father Brown Stories by G. K. Chesterton. Highly entertaining stories of a detective priest.
📚Hamlet by Shakespeare. I don’t know why, but I’ve always loved this story. Any other Hamlet fans our there?
📚Sword and Serpent by Dr. Taylor Marshall. Can’t recommend his retelling of St. George and the dragon enough! Truly epic and full of the Faith.
📚Enemy Brothers by Constance Savery. This is my favorite WWII themed book. A poignant and exciting story of a lost brother being returned to his family, much to his disgust.
📚The Fellowship of the Ring by Tolkien. If you haven’t read it, you should. If you have, rereading it is also a treat.

A little bird decided to make her nest on a stack of paint cans in our open garage.  Due to this, our cat (much to her chagrin) is being kept indoors.  She is a very skilled huntress.  I’m worried about the poor bird’s safety down so low but am also loving being able to peek at her darling little eggs.

What have you been doing during quarantine?  What books are you reading?  Let me know in the comments!

  1. We have the “Sword and Serpent” but I have yet to read it. I’m doing Taylor Marshall’s online classes and I think they are wonderful. I still have “Enemy Brothers” on my reread list.

    1. Sword and Serpent is a great series! You’ll love it!
Taking Taylor Marshall’s classes sounds like so much fun! What an awesome opportunity!
Enemy Brothers is one of my faves. I have to force myself to not reread it too often. 😀

      Happy Easter!

  2. Quarantine life for me hasn’t been all that different either, except that I can’t work and I can’t do that much shopping. But it has been an opportunity to clean out some old projects that I have had sitting on the backburner for ages. I’ve used this time to tackle a huge project this Lent: a small bed quilt!

Wow, your TBR stack is straight out of my dreams! I totally need to place a lot of these on my own TBR list. I’ve heard many many good things about Dr. Marshall’s series (I subscribe to his YouTube channel and have been listening to a lot of his talks lately!).
As for my own books, I’ve been slacking. I don’t have many physical books in my TBR. All I’ve read this Lent was the Emily of New Moon series by Lucy Maud Montgomery and Mossflower by Brian Jacques (and that was only because of a verrrry long car ride). Pity the libraries are closed….I could have gotten so much reading in….

    1. Making a quilt sounds like so much fun!! My great grandmother made each member of my family one, and they’re such treasures.

I miss the library too! However, there are library apps such as OverDrive and Hoopla. You put in your library ID and you can download books to your computer, kindle, etc. Not as good as a book you can smell, but a nice option when you’re desperate for new reading material. 🙂

      Happy Eastertide!
